Hartford, CT – McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter, LLP (MDM&C) recently announced that Wendy Kennedy Venoit, comanager of the firm’s Construction Law Practice group, has been named a Fellow of the American College of Construction Lawyers (ACCL). Venoit is only the second lawyer, and the first woman, in the state of Connecticut, to be named to the ACCL.
Fellowship is extended by invitation to those who are found to have mastered the practice or the teaching of construction law and dispute resolution, whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, scholarship, professionalism, and collegiality, and who have demonstrated a commitment to give back to the construction industry. The college has a limited membership of fewer than 200 lawyers from the United States, Canada, Britain, Australia, and France.
Venoit is a partner in the Hartford office of MDM&C where she focuses exclusively on the litigation and arbitration of domestic and international construction disputes, including litigation in state and federal forums and mediation and arbitration before the AAA, JAMS, LCIA, ICDR, and ICC. She primarily represents EPC contractors, general contractors, and construction managers, but has also represented owners and design professionals. She is an experienced trial attorney, having handled construction disputes involving claims in excess of $1 billion. She is also regularly called upon to counsel clients during the course of construction projects so as to avoid disputes, but (if necessary) to develop, prosecute, and defend claims.
In addition to serving as an advocate and counselor to her clients, Venoit also regularly sits as an arbitrator and is a member of the panel of neutrals of the American Arbitration Association (Construction), International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), CPR (Construction, Insurance Policy Holder Coverage, and Boston at Large ADR Panels), London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), and International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Venoit also sits on the National Board of Directors of the American Arbitration Association.
Venoit is membership chair and a member of the Governing Committee of the ABA Forum on Construction Law. The forum is a nationally prestigious organization known for its scholarly publications and programs focusing on developments and trends in construction law. She is also the former president and current treasurer of the Professional Women in Construction, Connecticut Chapter, which promotes the advancement of women in the construction industry.
Venoit is a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross (A.B. Economics and Spanish) and Pace University School of Law (J.D. magna cum laude, valedictorian), and is admitted to practice before the courts of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire, as well as numerous federal courts. She is AV Rated Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell and has been named in the International Who’s Who of Construction Law two years in a row.
