Boston – WinnDevelopment, the real estate development arm of WinnCompanies, announced that it has won a Multifamily Executive Award in the Mixed Income Project of the Year category for its Oliver Lofts project in Boston. A historic 19th century building, Oliver Lofts is the only midrise, multifamily building in Boston, and one of two historic midrise buildings in the country awarded LEED Platinum certification by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) after being converted into mixed-income housing.

The Multifamily Executive Awards are the multifamily housing industry’s most prestigious awards program. The winning projects are judged on innovation of architecture, suitability to target market, ability to work with government and community officials, strategic financing and success in the marketplace. Oliver Lofts was selected from 200 submissions as a winner in the Mixed Income Project of the Year category.

“These awards are a tremendous honor in our industry, and we are thrilled that Oliver Lofts has been recognized,” said Gilbert Winn, Managing Principal of WinnDevelopment. “We are proud that the project has received national recognition not only for its historic design and green elements, but also for the value and amenities it offers to this revitalizing Boston neighborhood.”

Formerly known as the Pickle-Ditson factory, Oliver Lofts represents an exceptional rehabilitation of a formerly vacant, underutilized historic mill. The Winn design team focused on maintaining the historic integrity of the building by blending artistic and historical architectural detail with ultra-modern finishes. The team completed careful, historically sensitive masonry restoration to highlight and preserve the building’s exterior.

The property consists of 62 residential homes, including artist studios, one and two bedroom flats, and two bedroom-plus den townhouses. All 62 residences are leased, 43 of which are affordable. Amenities at Oliver Lofts include an on-site management office, underground and surface lot parking, rooftop patio space, artist studio space, on-site laundry and a fitness room. The property also features bike storage, an on-site MBTA ticket system, and a Hertz shared use vehicle parking spot.

WinnDevelopment has long been at the forefront of green building and sustainability. Just recently, Canal Lofts, a 64-unit mixed-income housing community in Worcester, was awarded LEED Gold certification. In May, WinnDevelopment was also presented with the “Green Residential Award” and named “Climate Action Leader” by Mayor Menino for its Castle Square property on Tremont Street, developed in partnership with Castle Square Tenant’s Organization.

WinnDevelopment will be recognized at a special awards luncheon today, at the Multifamily Executive Conference in Las Vegas.
