Boston – Citizens and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) hosted painting pop-ups ahead of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day throughout the city of Boston, inviting community members and the general public to add their creative touch to a mural made by teens from Artists for Humanity.
Lisa Murray, Citizens Massachusetts president, hosted the first of several mural pop-ups at the Citizens Uphams Corner branch. Local community groups and students from Cristo Rey High School participated in a kick-off event for the mural series. The two paintings were made by teens from Artists for Humanity, celebrating themes of social justice, equality and unity, and inspired by the statue honoring MLK and his wife Coretta Scott King in the Boston Common. The murals traveled throughout Boston during the month of January, then were completed during the MFA’s annual MLK Day Open House on Jan. 16.
This is the 21st consecutive year that Citizens has sponsored the annual MLK Day celebration, allowing the museum to welcome more than 120,000 visitors to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King.
