McMahan Joins Fletcher Thompson

New York, NY – Fletcher Thompson, one of the Northeast’s leading architectural, engineering and interior design firms, announces the addition of Christopher “Kip” McMahan, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C, as Principal of the firm’s New York and Rhode Island offices.

New York, NY –  Fletcher Thompson, one of the Northeast’s leading architectural, engineering and interior design firms, announces the addition of Christopher “Kip” McMahan, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C, as Principal of the firm’s New York and Rhode Island offices. The unique experience that Mr. McMahan brings to this position will strengthen Fletcher Thompson’s reputation for providing clients with innovative, relevant architecture, and further expand the capabilities and services of the firm’s Education and Commercial Real Estate market sectors.

Mr. McMahan’s twenty-five years of architectural experience includes planning and design services for higher education clients, non-profit institutions and real estate developers throughout New England and New York. These projects range from the planning, programming and designing of large-scale, mixed-use commercial development sites to numerous buildings for universities, religious and art organizations. He has provided design leadership for multiple projects, including the Courtyard by Marriott at Union Station, which received a Masonry Institute award, LaSalle Academy Shea Science Building, the Community College of Rhode Island’s Knight and Liston campuses, and the Village Apartments at
Fairfield University. His restoration project for Rosedale Apartments, an Art Moderne complex on Narragansett Bay, received a preservation commission award in 2007.

Alongside the firm’s market sector Principals, Kip will lead the programming and design phases, manage the design team, and coordinate, communicate and control all professional service activities that are necessary for each project’s successful completion.

Mr. McMahan received bachelor degrees in fine arts and architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design, where he has participated in RISD design studios and juries over the years, most recently in the fall of 2011 as a Visiting Critic in the Department of Interior Architecture. His professional affiliations include The American Institute of Architects, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, and the Urban Land Institute. Kip served for five years as a chairman of the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, volunteered for several non-profit arts organizations boards, and received the Arts and Business Council 2006 Arts Advocate Award. Currently, he is a board member of the New England Foundation for the Arts, and is board Vice President of the Veterans Memorial Auditorium Foundation.
