Manchester, NH – The new 100,000-sf Market Basket store located at the corner of Elm and West Auburn Streets in downtown Manchester is nearing completion. RMD Inc of Tewksbury, MA is developing the store for Demoulas Super Markets Inc and the Market Basket stores. Prellwitz/Chilinski Associates Inc of Cambridge, MA is the project architect and Pro Con Inc of Manchester, NH is the general contractor for the project.
“The interior finishes are nearly complete and we are finalizing the installation of the electrical and refrigeration systems,” stated the project manager for Pro Con Inc. “Construction of the free-standing Elm Street stair tower that will lead customers from the street level to the front entrance of the store is underway.” The new store will offer a Market’s Café, a Market’s Kitchen, and an in-store bakery.
The store is located in the heart of downtown Manchester, on a 10.7 acre site that was formerly home to Rockwell Automation Inc’s Allen Bradley Plant. As part of the extensive renovation project, Pro Con Inc demolished a portion of the structure including exterior walls and the existing concrete slab. Pro Con Inc recycled 95% of the demolished construction waste material from the former building, diverting tons of debris from the landfills. Pro Con Inc began the demolition work the spring of 2011 and has scheduled an end of March 2012 completion date. Upon completion, Pro Con Inc will apply to have the Market Basket Store become LEED certified.
