Boston, MA – Margulies Perruzzi Architects recently announced that it has received the 2011 “Architectural Firm of the Year” award by Boston/SF News, Boston’s oldest online commercial real estate news outlet.
The Boston/SF News Real Estate Awards recognize people, projects, and organizations in 15 categories for their work in Massachusetts’ commercial real estate industry. Winners are selected by a jury of industry experts based on the nominations of about 6,000 weekly readers of Boston/SF News. The winner of the “Architectural Firm of the Year” category is an architectural firm based in Massachusetts that has made significant contributions to the commercial real estate industry in 2010. Awards were presented to the winners at an awards gala on January 20, 2011.
Since its founding in 1988, Margulies Perruzzi Architects has grown into an award-winning, technologically advanced, service-oriented organization with a wide range of corporate, healthcare, professional services, research/lab, and real estate clients. Margulies Perruzzi Architects (MPA) believes in creating healthy, environmentally friendly spaces and has designed many green and LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified projects. With an understanding of how green design can impact the environment and the bottom line, the firm approaches every project with the goal of incorporating some sustainable measures. MPA is a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), and more than 75 percent of the firm’s professional staff are LEED accredited professionals. Recent sustainable projects include the LEED Gold-certified 175-185 Wyman Street office complex; its own LEED Silver-certified offices in Fort Point Channel; and the Forrester Research corporate headquarters, which is expected to achieve LEED Gold certification when it is complete in August 2011.
MPA is actively involved in the community and contributes in many ways to both local and national causes. The firm annually organizes a company-wide campaign for giving to the United Way, and annually sponsors a table at the United Way real estate breakfasts. MPA’s designers have participated for the past five years in Boston’s CANstruction, an annual design and build competition event to fight hunger in Boston, and the firm’s employees annually play in the CBA and NAIOP Charity Golf Outings. MPA has been an underwriter of public radio station WBUR for more than five years. The firm is also active in the Fort Point community, where its office is located. MPA employees annually participate in the Sidewalk Sam events as well as the Friends of Fort Point Pumpkin Pageant.
MPA plays an integral role with Heading Home Inc., a non-profit organization whose mission is to end homelessness in Greater Boston by providing housing in conjunction with effective support services to help change the conditions that create homelessness. The firm recently donated to the Big Sisters Association IFMA Golf Tournament, which benefited Heading Home. On November 30, 2010, principal Marc Margulies assumed the role of chairperson of the Board of Directors for Heading Home. Both Marc and his wife Anne have been long-term supporters of the organization.
