Woburn and Tewksbury, MA – Landmark Structures Corporation, a Woburn-based commercial general contractor and construction management company, has been selected as General Contractor for an innovative new senior housing development, The Villa at MeadowView, located on Livingston Street in Tewksbury.

Groundbreaking ceremonies were held recently for the 33-unit, $6.0 million project, which is a partnership between the Town and the Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley. Much of the funding for the project will come from the Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The project will be built on land leased from the Tewksbury Housing Authority and will include 32 one-bedroom and one two-bedroom apartments. Each apartment will have its own kitchen and handicapped-accessible bathroom. A common area will include a patio, entryway with fireplace, dining room, an arts-and-craft room and a library with computer access.  Construction will be completed in June, 2014.

Known as supportive housing, the objective is to provide people with a home where they can continue to age-in-place, rather than having to move into a nursing home or assisted-living facility prematurely.

Landmark Structures is working closely with the Somerville, MA architectural firm Davis Square Architects, as well as with representatives of Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley and Housing Consultants from Gagnier-Hicks. The project has been in the planning stages since 2008. When completed, there will be staff workers from the Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley who will provide a resident services manager who will link residents with community based support services such as personal care, nursing and other services.

“It’s been great to work through the preconstruction phase with Rosanne DiStefano, executive director, and  Maureen Drouin, director of housing and community programs of Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley, along with Cliff Boehmer and Amy Bloom from Davis Square Architects,” said Bill Glasser, President of Landmark Structures.  He added, “This is quite a project for the Town of Tewksbury. We understand that, years ago, this was farmland connected to the current Tewksbury Hospital.”

He continued, “We are keenly aware of the need for additional, independent living housing for our aging population. Tewksbury last built affordable elder housing in 1975. This building when completed will offer residents independent living at its best, and we are delighted to have been selected to bring this concept to reality.”
