Farmington, Conn. and Columbia – KBE Building Corporation’s (KBE) (www.kbebuilding.com) Principal, President and CEO Mike Kolakowski received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the Wallingford Education Foundation.

The Wallingford Education Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides financial support to programs that promote educational excellence within the Wallingford, CT school system through grants, community fundraising events, and personal or corporate sponsored donations.

Mr. Kolakowski grew up in Wallingford, and has raised his family in town as well. The Kolakowski family has long supported the Wallingford and Meriden public school systems, with 2011 marking the 20th year that the Henry S. Kolakowski Jr. Memorial Fund has been raising money for high school students. The fundraiser was created to honor Mr. Kolakowski’s father by providing college scholarships ranging from $500 to $2000. The scholarships are awarded to students who have overcome adversities, such as learning disabilities or family issues, shown continual grade improvement, and are in need of financial aide. The Fund has provided 147 scholarships totaling $155,650 since its inception in 1991.

“Education is an extremely important part of our children’s lives,” said Mike Kolakowski. “As a teacher, my father was always helping students in need, and I am exceptionally proud to give my support to these programs in his name.”

The awards were presented at the Wallingford Education Foundation’s 8th Annual Distinguished Alumni Awards Dinner at Zandri’s Stillwood Inn in Wallingford, CT on March 23, 2012.
