Farmington, CT – KBE Building Corporation, construction manager at risk for the new science center at Connecticut College

Farmington, CT – KBE Building Corporation, construction manager at risk for the new science center at Connecticut College, is currently working with the college and Payette Architects on the 10,000sf, four-story, structural steel addition to the campus Science Center. The $16 million project will also include extensive renovation of the existing stone clad building, which was constructed in 1915. When completed in 2012, the new Science Center will house classrooms and labs for computer, botany, and biology curricula.
The project is pursuing LEED Silver certification with the US Green Building Council, with a focus on the use of local and regional materials and materials with a high recycle content.
KBE has been working with Connecticut College since 2005 on its multi-year, multi-million dollar Asset Investment program. To date the program has encompassed more than 250 projects including renovations, additions, and other campus improvements. KBE is construction manager at risk on the projects, which have incorporated a formal partnering process that has earned the team several national awards for this pioneering teamwork process.
Other KBE projects on higher education campuses include the design-build delivery of the 183-bed, four-story addition to Patapsco Hall at University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) campus. Newman Architects of New Haven is KBE’s design partner on the UMBC project.
KBE is also completing the OSFM Legacy Code Remediation project for the University of Connecticut, providing code remediation and repairs to more than 50 buildings on four of the university’s campuses.
