Westfield, Mass – The Environmental Business Council of New England (EBC) recently elected Francis Hoey, P.E., LEED AP to the organization’s Board of Directors. Hoey – a senior vice president at Tighe & Bond who leads the firm’s efforts in the renewable energy, real estate development, education, and healthcare markets – brings a wealth of sustainable design experience to the appointment. Already active in EBC, he is a member of the EBC Renewable Energy Committee Leadership Team, as well as a member of the EBC Connecticut Chapter Leadership Team.
Hoey holds professional registrations in both civil and structural engineering, and has more than 20 years experience in the industry. He has assisted numerous clients with evaluating and installing large ground-mounted solar PV systems, such as the recent 2.3 megawatt solar energy system in Easthampton that represents the first solar energy system constructed on a closed landfill in Massachusetts. He has been involved in the design, permitting, licensing, construction, and/or operations of more than 90 megawatts (MW) of hydropower, 60 MW of utility scale wind, and 100 MW of biomass.
Hoey has served in a lead design and management role for many of the firm’s large scale development projects. This includes the multi-developer, mixed-use Danbury Reserve in Connecticut which will include nearly 2,200 high-end residential units and more than 1,000,000 square feet of office, hotel, and retail space. Other projects include Georgetown, the massive mixed use development in Redding, Connecticut that was a national smart growth award winner, and the redevelopment of a historic jute mill into the Mill at River’s Edge in Ludlow that is reported to be the largest not-for-profit industrial development project in Massachusetts. He also managed Masonic Health System’s Overlook facility in Northampton, Massachusetts, one of the first “small house” assisted living facilities in the country.
Hoey also serves as chairman of the board of Holyoke Gas & Electric, and sits on the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Holyoke.
Hoey earned his bachelor of science in civil engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP). He also holds professional registrations in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, and New York.
The EBC is a nonprofit organization that was established in 1990 by environmental and energy company executives who began meeting on a regular basis to exchange ideas and share experiences. The EBC was the first organization in the United States established to support and foster the development of the environmental industry. Its goal is to enhance business and job growth of both established and emerging environmental and energy businesses.
