West and East Harbor, Stonington, Conn – GEI Consultants, Inc. was selected by Jacobs Engineering to provide geotechnical engineering and investigation services for Amtrak Bridge Nos. 135.51 and 135.57 over West and East Harbor in Stonington, Connecticut. The site consists of an active Amtrak commuter railroad embankment located on a causeway in Stonington Harbor. Following Amtrak’s decision to replace both bridges, GEI coordinated and supervised the geotechnical subsurface investigation within a railroad right-of-way that involved facilitating daily task-specific job safety briefings. Despite drilling times limited to a small overnight window between train passings, the subsurface exploration program was completed on time.
