New Haven, CT – Fusco Management is proud to join the Environmental Protection Agency’s list of ENERGY STAR Leaders, an elite group of organizations that have improved energy efficiency across entire portfolios of commercial buildings. Fusco is the first commercial ENERGY STAR Leader in Connecticut and the third in the state after the Weston and Plymouth School Districts. Last year, President Obama announced a nationwide call to action to make commercial buildings 20% more energy efficient by 2020. EPA’s ENERGY STAR program provides a strategic pathway toward superior energy efficiency, including a focus on ongoing performance measurement and whole-building improvement, that has helped these leading organizations make meaningful progress toward the President’s goal.
“Fusco is pleased to be named an ENERGY STAR Leader,” said Lynn Fusco, President. “As property owners, we are dedicated to maintaining high performing buildings. This achievement substantiates our commitment to our tenants, the community, and the environment.”
As of August 2012, more than 75 % percent of eligible properties owned and managed by Fusco have achieved the ENERGY STAR. Fusco has also improved energy efficiency by approximately 7 percent across its portfolio of owned and managed properties compared to a 2010 baseline. In that same period, Fusco has improved its average source energy intensity by more than 18 percent. In 2011 alone, Fusco achieved more than $450,000 in energy savings through continued measuring and implementation of energy-efficient operational improvements, including: retrofitting lighting and occupancy sensors, using ENERGY STAR qualified products, upgrading boilers, and replacing cooling tower fans and condenser water pumps. These improvements have greatly improved energy efficiency and also increased the time between required maintenance tune-ups. Compared to its 2010 baseline, Fusco is preventing
the annual emissions of more than 80 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, which is equal to the carbon sequestered by more than 2,100 tree seedlings planted and grown for 10 years.
Fusco earned the ENERGY STAR Leader “Top Performer” Designation. This requires that buildings in an organization’s portfolio, on average, perform in the top 25% of similar buildings nationwide. Fusco owned and managed properties perform in the top 20%. To be eligible for ENERGY STAR Leaders recognition,
organizations are required to track and submit energy performance data for all buildings and fuel sources through EPA’s ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager tool.
