Burlington, Ma – On Sunday, April 25th, over 1,000 people gathered on Admiral’s Hill in Chelsea to participate in the second annual Walk to Defeat ALS. Erland Construction, the construction manager for the new Leonard Florence Center for Living, was a corporate sponsor and fielded a team of walkers for the event. In total, our team donated more than $14,000 to this worthy cause. Affirmative Investments, who joined Erland’s team for the walk and donated an additional $2,500.
“I’m really proud that Erland was part of this important project – it’s a rare thing these days to be a part of something so special and I’m so happy to participate. The turnout today was so impressive. It’s great to see so many people out here supporting such a great cause,” said Erland Vice President, Chuck Vaciliou, after completing the 2-mile walk.
The recently completed Leonard Florence Center for Living is a 6-story skilled nursing facility where residents live in 10-bedroom houses that reflect their interests, values, and needs. Modeled after the Green House style created by Dr. William Thomas, residents enjoy home-cooked meals prepared in their own house kitchen and served at a common table near their rooms. Each house has its own dedicated staff of caregivers responsible for preparing meals and assisting the residents. The Leonard Florence Center is America’s only permanent residence dedicated to caring for individuals with ALS, as well as MS.
