Established in 1992, Dore & Whittier is a leading design firm specializing in educational facilities planning, design and management. D&W has two offices in Newburyport, MA and South Burlington, VT enabling the firm to serve all of northern New England.

Dore & Whittier has received recognition for designing award-winning facilities, such as the new Dedham Middle School, which earned Green School Certification from the Massachusetts Department of Education and the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC), and for the King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham, MA, a recent recipient of a 2009 American School & University Award for “Best High School”.

“We take a proactive look at energy efficiency and sustainability in all of our design projects and encourage our clients to consider the many benefits of ‘green design’,” Walter explains. “In addition to our numerous projects that have incorporated green design elements and energy efficiency improvements, Dore & Whittier has been as a leader in developing energy-related design criteria. We were on a task force with MTC and the USGBC to further the MA-CHPS criteria and develop the prototype for the Green School Standards. Later, we worked with the State of Vermont to develop guidelines for the design of state buildings. Dore & Whittier was also part of the original advisory group that promoted a New England protocol for High Performance Schools and, as members of VGBN, supported the Northeast CHPS.”
