Bridgewater, Ma – Callahan, Inc. recently completed construction on the Braintree Transfer Station for the Covanta Energy Corporation. The nine-month renovation added new recycling capabilities, will reduce noise and diminish potential odor complaints, among several other improvements. The newly improved transfer station was unveiled at a ribbon cutting ceremony in early January.
Callahan provided construction management services and associated site work for the renovation and modernization of the transfer station. The $5 million Callahan contract began in March of 2012 and the station remained fully operational during the renovation.
Renovations resulted in an aesthetically pleasing state-of-the-art operation. The project included a new enclosed staging building, a tarping and exit scale building with enclosure to reduce noise, new air filtration system for mitigating odors, a relocated resident drop off area and a new inbound scale house. Site work included expanded roadways and perimeter fencing, new trees and landscaping.
“This facility is now among the best of its kind in the region,” said Michael Callahan, Vice President of Callahan, Inc. “All upgrades made on the facility take into account the comfort and convenience of the operations as well as the well-being of the surrounding communities.”
