Kingstown, RI – In anticipation of inclement weather conditions, the new TownePlace Suites by Marriott in the Quonset Business Park is weather tight and construction is proceeding on schedule. Pro Con, Inc of Manchester, NH is the architect and construction manager for the $7.5M sustainable design build hotel which is being developed as part of the Gateway Parcel Master Development by New Boston Fund Inc of Boston, MA and Waterford Development of Needham, MA. The TownePlace Suites by Marriott is being built on a 4.6 acre site conveniently located across from The Shops at Quonset Point at the intersection of Gate Road and Route 403.

“The building is weather tight and the interior sheet rock installation is underway,” stated the project manager for Pro Con Inc. “The exterior masonry veneer will be completed by the end of December and the exterior siding will be completed by the end of January. The project schedule remains on target for March 2011 completion date.”

The developer is intending to make the 103-key, 4-story extended stay hotel one of the first environmentally friendly hotels in Rhode Island and has registered it with the US Green Building Council (USGBC) with the intention to pursue certification under the USGBC’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program. PCI’s design incorporates many sustainable features including a geothermal system for heating and cooling the 55,453-sf building, excavation material was crushed and reused for structural fill, the landscape plantings will be low water tolerant plants and the lawns will be watered using water collected from storm runoff.

TownePlace Suites by Marriott, which is designed for the extended stay traveler looking for moderately priced accommodations, will offer complimentary continental breakfast and each suite will have separate working, lounging and sleeping areas. The studio, one and two bedroom-suites will also have kitchens equipped with a stovetop, microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker. On-site amenities will include a breakfast buffet area, indoor pool, fitness room, outdoor patio and guest laundry. Colwen Management of Nashua, NH will manage the new hotel when it opens next spring.
