Burlington, MA – Erland Construction has begun work on the upgrades to Springfield College’s Locklin Hall – the school’s main classroom building. Teaming with Jablonski DeVriese Architects, the work will be performed over the summer and completed before students return to school in early September.
Originally a manufacturing facility built in 1914, Locklin Hall was acquired by the College in the mid-1960s. The 64,960 square foot building is comprised of three floors and a basement and houses classroom space and administrative offices. Work will include partial window replacement; a new energy efficient, code-compliant white roof; exterior masonry restoration; a new stairwell addition; lobby upgrades on each floor; and other floor plan reconfigurations. The building will remain partially operational throughout the summer, so Erland will create a temporary second means of egress to ensure the safety of all individuals.
“Springfield College is a long-time client of ours and this project will be our fifth on campus,” said Erland Sr. Vice President and Key Accounts Manager, Tom Blesso. “We’re pleased that the college asked us back once again and are excited to deliver another successful project for them.”
