Boston – Columbia Construction Company recently celebrated the completion of Back Deck restaurant, a new “backyard cookout” spot in the Downtown Crossing neighborhood of Boston.
Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino, along with principal Brad Fredericks and chef Paul Sussman of Back Deck, were present at a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony that welcomed this new eatery to the neighborhood during a block party event held on Monday, July 23, 2012. Many people from the community joined in on the fun and had the opportunity to sample tastings from the recently opened Back Deck restaurant, as well as other eateries in the area.
As the newest addition to Boston’s Downtown Crossing area, Back Deck offers a laid-back, backyard grilling experience to its patrons. Upon visiting, one will experience the warm ambiance of the space, which brings the outdoors inside with such details as exterior carriage lighting and glazed brick throughout the dining room, as well as an open kitchen that invites guests to watch the flame-kicking fun! Drawing inspiration from a roof deck, this restaurant is the ultimate urban retreat.
As soon as you enter the dining room you enjoy a cookout experience inside! An open kitchen sits behind the snaking granite bar where you have front row seats to the hot and sizzling action unfolding just a few feet away. The dining room features teak and shorea patio furniture to accommodate groups of all kinds. Lush green plantings and a canopied soffit inspired by the porch of a classic Boston triple-decker divide the dining room into three distinct decks. Two custom-made umbrella chandeliers come on as night falls, illuminating a lofty evening sky-blue ceiling.
The addition of Back Deck is part of the overall redevelopment of the Downtown Crossing area of Boston. The block party was held to celebrate the recent revival of the area, and to show the City’s commitment to investing in the infrastructure of Downtown Crossing.
