Boston – The Building Pathways Building Trades Pre-Apprenticeship Program graduated its first class of all women on December 21st for entry into careers in the construction industry. The 10 Boston area residents took part in a 7-week training program that included classroom and hands-on learning experiences to prepare them to enter an apprenticeship in the building and construction trades.
Building Pathways is sponsored by the Building and Construction Trades Council of the Metropolitan District, in partnership with Action for Boston Community Development, Inc., the Boston Housing Authority, and The Construction Institute. The program focuses on increasing access and opportunities in the building trades for low income Boston area residents, women, minorities and veterans.
State Representative Martin Walsh, Secretary/General Agent of the Boston Building Trades, told the graduates that, “This is a really exciting opportunity. Building Pathways is about creating a career path that can provide you with a high paying and rewarding career. Your next challenge is to take the opportunity and run with it!”
Building Pathways is funded through grants from the U.S. Department of Labor, the Commonwealth Corporation, and the Mayor’s Office of Jobs and Community Services, with additional financial support from program partners.
