Boston, Ma and Albany, NY -The College of Saint Rose, Albany, NY, recently celebrated the grand opening of the EYP Architecture & Engineering-designed Centennial Hall, the College’s new four-story student residence. Named to honor the College’s 2020 centennial, the new residence hall continues a transformation that began with the EYP-designed Thelma P. Lally School of Education and includes the new Massry Center for the Arts, William Randolph Hearst Center for Communications and Interactive Media and the forthcoming Huether School of Business.

Centennial Hall features single-occupancy bedrooms, lounges and group study areas, and a rear courtyard that will be used for campus gatherings. A convenience-type store called “Provisions on Demand (POD),” a “Burger Studio” café featuring made-to-order hamburgers and other hot foods, laundry facilities on each floor, indoor bike storage and small study rooms provide students with outstanding amenities to help them bridge between college life and independence. In addition, both the “Provisions on Demand” store and the “Burger Studio” are open to the public.

The 94,000 square-foot, 225-bed residence hall incorporates a number of green features to minimize its energy use and overall impact on the environment. A closed loop geothermal heat pump system with a supplemental gas-fired high-efficiency hot water boiler provides the heating and air conditioning requirements. The hall’s design incorporates materials used throughout the building that are low in volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The thermal design and insulation of the exterior walls exceed New York’s state building code to reduce the building’s energy demand. Other energy- and Earth- friendly features, such as high-efficiency lighting and lighting controls to reduce electricity use and the use of single-stream recycling for paper, glass, metals and plastics, are included throughout.

“Centennial Hall is for and about students, as it provides them with the tangible amenities that they want in an on-campus environment. Today, all of us at Saint Rose join in celebration as we welcome this next great addition to our campus and our community,” said Saint Rose President Dr. David Szczerbacki.

Commented EYP Project Executive Joe Volpe, “We are proud of this great accomplishment and our long-term relationship with the College. This residence hall positively contributes to the campus by providing more residential facilities for its students, and we are pleased that the new facility is helping the College meet its strategic goals.”
