Cambridge, MA – Construction, building development and design teams as well as local officials, including City of Cambridge Mayor, Henrietta Davis, recently celebrated a major milestone at 225 Binney Street at a topping off ceremony marking the placement of the last iron beam onto the new 305,000sf office building, that includes 105,000sf of below-grade parking.
The first of five buildings planned for the Alexandria Center™ at Kendall Square, a world-class science and technology campus developed by Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. is located in the heart of Cambridge’s world-renowned scientific research, academic and technology center.
Designed to meet LEED Silver certification, the building’s integrated design team includes developer ARE, construction manager Consigli Construction Co., Inc., architects Spagnolo Gisness Architects and Nelson, and MEP engineers, Vanderweil.
Developed to house Biogen Idec’s general and administrative functions, the building will include flexible and innovative spaces to encourage collaboration, along with a conference center and a 6,300sf. cafeteria, among other amenities. The modern architecture of the six-story building, featuring a glass and terra cotta façade will also incorporate two existing historic buildings.
