Lawrence, MA – Remember when Massachusetts was one the hubs of footwear manufacturing, well take this tour and see a modern sports footwear design and manufacturing complex. The facility is located in Lawrence at 5 South Union Street.
This tour will highlight the recent replacement of the fire protection system and boiler plant.
South Union Street is the Flag Ship Building of New Balance. The functions that reside here include Product Development, Product Design, Advanced Concepts, Material Development, Product Testing, CAD, Product Engineering NB’s Prototype Shop. New Balance’s Apparel Sourcing also resides in Lawrence along with an impressive retail presence. Lawrence Manufacturing is the largest single department at this location.
* Currently 50,000 of the 532,000 square feet of the S. Union St. building is used for manufacturing.
* Lawrence manufacturing currently produces an average of 5,000 pairs of shoes per day.
* NB employs approximately 250 people for the manufacturing plant and approximately 300 associates providing support for other NB business units and retail operations.
Date: Tuesday February 22, 2011 starting at 6:00 PM, please arrive by 5:30 PM for pre-tour registration. Special 20% discount cards will be given to all attendees for use in the Factory Store. The Factory store will be open before the tour so arrive early (5 PM) to visit the store, it closes at 7 PM and will not be available after the start of the tour. Once the tour is completed, dinner will be served, after dinner a presentation by Servpro.

Attendance Fee: The price is $30 for members and $40 for Non Members and includes the tour, meal, and speakers presentation. This event has limited space and will fill up quickly so we recommend early registration.

Directions: Traveling from Route 93 North/Route 495 North:
Take Route 495 N to Exit #43 (Mass Ave)
At the end of the ramp turn left.
Proceed ¼ mile to a traffic light; this is a blinking yellow light.
Proceed another ¼ mile to a traffic light.
Turn right at the traffic light onto S. Union Street.
After turning onto S. Union Street immediately goes over a bridge that spans railroad tracks to a traffic
light immediately on the other side of the bridge.
Proceed straight through traffic light and New Balance will be the 1st building on the left.
New Balance Lawrence building is a red brick mill building with a very large clock tower on the top.
The parking lot will be on your right, immediately across the street from the front door.

AFE members can park in both the Store parking lot on Union Street and the associate parking lot “Lot A” located at the bottom of the hill behind the Store parking lot. The entrance is across the street from the 5 South Union Street Building Main Entrance.
