Abbot Restores Bentley University Student Dormitory

Boston, MA – Abbot Building Restoration recently completed a restoration project

Boston, MA – Abbot Building Restoration recently completed a restoration project on the east wall at Collins Hall, a 6-story brick student dormitory building on the campus of Bentley University, Waltham, MA, that was allowing rainwater to penetrate into the students’ rooms.

Working from an evaluation and design specification created by the engineering consulting firm RMX Northeast of Milford, that identified deficiencies with the through wall flashings in the brick masonry veneer, Abbot removed the bricks along the concrete slab of each floor, installed new flashing to redirect the rainwater out of the cavity between the interior and exterior widths of brick, and installed new bricks to match the existing brickwork on the building. Significantly, as the project was initiated in mid-August, Abbot was able to mobilize its resources to meet the tight construction schedule required to complete the repairs before the students returned to school in early September.
