Bedford, NH -Eckman Construction of Bedford has begun construction of a Student Center at the Manchester Community College. They were selected to serve as Construction Manager for the 28,000 square foot renovation and addition project at the Front Street campus, which will be their third project at the school.
The new space facing Interstate 293 will include a large multi-purpose room with a full-size basketball court; a new kitchen with dining room; a function room; a student lounge area; fitness rooms; locker rooms; and offices for student organizations. An outdoor courtyard will be created between the student center wing and the health education wing that Eckman built in 2007, and the two spaces will be joined by a second-story bridge.
Construction is scheduled for completion in May 2013, with the building remaining occupied throughout the project. The first task, which has already been completed, was the relocation of the kitchen to a temporary location during construction. The student center was designed by Lavallee Brensinger Architects of Manchester.
Eckman Construction, based in Bedford, has been working as Construction Manager, General Contractor, and Design-Builder in New England for over 38 years. Recent academic projects include The Academy Building at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, and the Ware Campus Center at Colby Sawyer College.
